It manifests itself by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. Earthquakes are most common in volcanic and mountainous regions. Bangladesh lies in the active earthquake zone. As a result, she has already experienced several mild earthquakes during the recent years and it becomes frequent in Bangladesh. Most of the people of our country know it well what will happen if a major earthquake hits Bangladesh. The experts cannot give straight answer to what extent damage Bangladesh will face if any major earthquake hits. However, experts believe that earthquake is a major threat for Bangladesh because she lies in the active earthquake zone and several mild earthquakes are recurring here. For this, they are giving more attention to the issue of earthquake. So, steps have to be taken immediately to minimize the losses. Increase of awareness, development of earthquake resistant buildings and many other steps must be implemented for reducing the loss of our lives and properties. Besides, different media should play an active role in this regard.
